Put parent communication on official school records

Parent-teacher communication improves when attendance, homework and notices live in one official app instead of personal chat threads. What to change in practice.

Unofficial channels create unofficial records

When the class WhatsApp group is the noticeboard, the school cannot audit who saw what, teachers are on duty at midnight, and new parents never get last term’s files. An ERP with announcements, diaries and messaging puts communication on school accounts.

Share facts, not rumours

Attendance and fee status are facts. Homework and diary notes are academic communication. SchoolPilot surfaces those in the parent app, including Urdu and English for the parent portal, so the family is not guessing.

Protect teachers’ personal phones

A teacher app with messaging is an occupational health feature as much as a product feature. Schools should still set response-time expectations. Software does not require staff to be available 24 hours; policy does that.

Keep other families out of the thread

Role-based parent access means a guardian sees their children. That is the minimum bar. Broadcast announcements handle whole-class notices without exposing private conversations.

Write a one-page policy: what belongs in the school app, what may stay in a class group, and how quickly a teacher is expected to reply. Software cannot invent that policy. It can only stop the unofficial channel from becoming the only record.
